Pan Village | पान ग्राम

 Some of us find it confusion to trace ourselves to our ancestors in Pan village.  A number of posts have been issued in 2021 in which different branches of the Pan vanshavali have been linked with their location in the village.  If you go to any of these posts, you will find a particular branch, designated with English alphabets A, B, C... When you open the attached image, it has a small map of the village where the location of these branches has been indicated.  So, if you know that you belong to the branch whose encestors resided in the top bakhali of Pan (Dainguna or Par Pan), you will find your village location (V)  as well as the family tree of your branch.  I recently wrote an article on RaagDelhi, a Hindi web magazine, about forest fires and their linkage to climate change.  As I was narrating to the Editor the story of how during my childhood, the pine forest above the Pan village was systematically denuded and torched, he prompted me to insert a box on this in the article.  People of my village, surrounding villages or villages elsewhere in Uttarakhand, who have witnessed similar things happening around them, will perhaps find a resonance in that experience. वैसे तो अल्मोड़ा जिले के रानीखेत तहसील के चौखुटिया ब्लॉक के गाँवों में पान ग्राम उस लिस्ट में नहीं है जिन गाँवों में जनसँख्या सबसे कम है, लेकिन सच्चाई ये है कि पान नाम के गाँव की जनसँख्या बहुत कम है. जिस ग्राम के बारे में सेन्सस के आंकड़े बताते हैं उसमें आस-पास के छोटे-छोटे गाँव भी जोड़ दिए गए हैं.  जो पान के पांडे लोगों का गाँव है उसके दो भाग हैं - मूल पान और डेंगुण. डेंगुण पान के सामने की पहाड़ी में पान के लोगों ने बसाया जब वहां रहने की जगह कम पड़ने लगी या परिवार टूटने लगे. ये वो लोग थे जिनके घर मूल पान की पहाड़ी में नहीं बस सकते थे क्योंकि यह पहाड़ी बहुत खड़ी (steep) है और जंगलों से घिरी है.  द्वाराहाट-चौखुटिया रोड मूल पान के नीचे से गुजरती है. डेंगुण के निवासियों को लम्बे समय तक बस स्टॉप से पैदल नदी पार करके जाना पड़ता था, लेकिन इसकी पहाड़ी में खेती करने और मकान बनाने की जगह मूल पान की तुलना में काफी अधिक होने के कारण यहां की जनसँख्या बढ़ती रही. बहुत बाद में एक पुल बन जाने से यह समस्या हल हो सकी.  1970 के दशक तक ये दोनों गाँव बहुत फल-फूल रहे थे. बहुत सारे परिवारों से न...
