What actually led to unsustainable level of migration of residents from Pan?

Most villages in Uttarakhand suffer from migration. Villages that are not well connected with local towns have borne the brunt of migration to an extent that life there has become unsustainable. A large number of factors have contributed to this and these have been documented by government agencies and sociologists. So, this article does not seek to go into the possible reasons of migration but draws from actual case studies.
During 1950's, there were about 35 families living in the twin-villages. Families used to be big (on an average, 6-8 persons in a family), usually comprising three generations. Those working outside would also keep visiting the village on major festivals and family/ village events. [to be expanded]
